"When we communicate our vision of another standing in their power and we hold them there in our hears and In our words, it often inspires them to see themselves that way too."

Cyanotype portraiture

Earlier this July I was inspired to try a new art making process, which was diving into the process of cyanotype making. According to Google, Cyanotype is a 170 year old photographic printing process that produces prints in a distinctive dark greenish-blue. The word cyan comes from the Greek, meaning “dark blue substance.” The process was invented by Sir John Herschel, a brilliant astronomer and scientist, in 1842.”

Trial & Error

Through out the summer of 2019 I experimented with mixing cyanotype chemicals, exposing negatives in the sun, and washing sheets of paper. There were lots of error in this period of art making. I then took the pieces that needed extra love and added archival gel pen ink designs.

After creating artwork on watercolor paper, and mixed media paper - I moved onto pre treated cyanotype fabric. Which I then added embroidery floss to add more color and texture. I exhibited all of these cyanotypes in an exhibition that I put together with my sister and brother-in-law in December 2019 at the Amazing Things Arts Center.
